Seattle, WA Pt. One

This is a list of things I did while I was in Seattle Washington… or what I remember of it anyways. Please enjoy what I could only assume is a hot mess week in Seattle. I would like to mention that Seattle isn't a hot mess, I'm the hot mess. I went to Seattle with ZERO plan, rhyme, or reason. I found out that I was going to go to Seattle the DAY BEFORE I left. I did buy a first-class ticket with was absolutely incredible. I do recommend that people buy a first-class ticket at least once in their life. But it was my birthday and last-minute first-class tickets are similar in price to those last-minute economy tickets so why not? Go crazy.

So I went from Austin to Seattle (maybe stopping at DFW airport first? Honestly, it was a long time ago and I don't think I wrote about my travel as I do now.) I remember I sat next to a guy who was in the aisle and I was at the window and I refused to make eye contact because he was a businessman and I was a young adult that probably didnt deserve the seat that I was in.

Anyways, I got to Seattle with NOTHING planned. I think I reached out and decided to stay with my sister's friend who I don't think I ever met before that day. But they were so kind to let me stay there and take me wherever I wanted to go. So I go to the uber area of the airport and I share a ride with another girl who was flying into Seattle. She was kind to share some insight and the best places to go. My plan was to get downtown and make a plan for the rest of the day and week that I was going to be there.

So I just clicked on a place that looked like downtown for the Uber driver to take me to. The driver took me to a spot downtown, next to this little coffee shop that I stopped in because it smelt delectable. So I stopped in and I remember that it was a really cute little coffee shop. The girl at the front was helpful in assisting me to choose my coffee. I remember that she did the Apple Card Chip thing on an iPad for the first time I've ever seen it. It was interesting. I then sat next to a window and put my carry-on bag under my seat and sat with my coffee as I figured out a plan. I learned I was near many different tourist things so I wanted to hit all those places before I go to my sweet host family.

I walked by the first-ever Starbucks, found the fish market at pikes, and went up the space needle. I remember I walked around in the rain for about 2 hours trying to find this gum wall. I guess it was really popular and the photos were cute so I was really interested in going. It was like the love lock bridge in Paris… but instead of love locks, it was shared smushed gum. Who looked at one piece of gum on a random wall and thought “let's get a bunch of people to do this for art and then make money off of it”? Because I would like to be that guy's friend.

But for the life of me, I could not figure out how to get there. I walked around back and forth, in the rain, inside the building, but I could not find it. It wasn't helping that I was carrying my bag with all my clothes and purse since I still never got to drop anything off. (And I think I was hungry. I don't think I had eaten yet). Finally, I sat down and gave up and I'm debating if this whole thing was a good idea or not. Then finally I give up and call an uber. While I was waiting for the uber, I decided to try one more time, and guess what? I found it. It was not near where maps told me it was. But I made it. I took a few pictures and jumped in my uber. We drove for a really long time. I didnt realize that the place that I was staying was so far from Seattle. It was about 45 minutes. We finally pull up on this mountain with no life around it and I think “this is where I die”. But he made a left turn into what felt like a deserted mountain top and there sat a little church and the house I was going to stay at.

Now I can't remember what happened if they greeted me or were already outside but I somehow get in and I'm introduced to their little amazing sweet family and they are giving me a tour of their house. I was able to get settled into my room and I think I missed dinner so I think I just didnt eat that entire day. I remember having to make a plan about meals and bringing snacks into the house. However, I do remember that they bought me some chocolate or something for me.

I went to sleep that night in a comfy warm bed listening to raindrops tap on my window. It was peaceful. I went to sleep excited to escape from my texas life for a little while and experience something new.
