This is probably going to be my most detailed story because it's so wild. I've been holding onto this one.
I also took a full day and walked 40 miles. I didnt want to spend the day with the host family today, I wanted to go exploring. I remember having coffee that morning and telling the host family that I was going to go into town and that I would be back late. So I got my headphones and went on a walk. I just wanted to walk a little ways away but I ended up walking for 7 or 8 hours. My memory tells me that I walked 40 miles one way but upon googling, I think it was more like 15 miles. I just remember after a few hours of walking, I decided that I wanted to put my feet in the ocean.
So I walked and I listened to music and I didnt do much else. It was a beautiful day where it was a little cooler in the morning and hot in the day. I remember stripping off my jacket. I had these cute black boots on that I walked in. I thought that my feet were going to hurt since they were fashion boot things but they were actually really comfortable. I don't think I would have made it as far as I did if I wasnt wearing those boots.
I'm just enjoying the sights and spending the day walking. It was so peaceful. I found so many hiking trails and I saw so many different types of birds. Plus I never thought that I would spend the entire day walking. I don't remember stopping for food during the day, I just wanted to eat something. At hour 6 or 7, I started getting really hungry and I really wanted to put my feet in the ocean and I really wanted a chocolate cupcake. So I found the nearest town (which I thought was Olympia, but now I can't be so sure). My plan was to spend an hour or so in this town eating and exploring and then get an uber back.
So I finally get to this bridge. I might have been delusional from not having any food or water during this entire walk, but it was absolutely gorgeous. It looked so cool. I can't explain it but it was similar looking to the white bridge in Dallas, Texas with the arches that added to the skyline. It was just cool. Plus there was old architecture and a gorgeous river that led to the ocean, colorful graffiti, and not many cars at that time of day (I think it was like 5 or 6 pm?)
I walk across this long bridge that is definitely a highway and I walk on this cobblestone road that no one really drives on. It seems like it's close to downtown. I immediately went to the part where the ocean and river meet and took off my boots and socks and put my feet in the water. MAN, it was COLD! I don't know what I was expecting, but it was not that. I did not expect it to be ice cold, freezing my entire body. I immediately put my shoes and socks back on and checked that off my list of things to do.
Next was a cupcake spot. I was having a hard time finding a cupcake shop but I finally found one that was open. I walk in and it was super cool. I remember that it was a white interior, super clean, super chic, super modern. The lady was incredibly nice and helped me pick out a little cupcake that was honestly one of the best cupcakes I've ever had. Again, I hadn't eaten anything that entire day but it was still the best cupcake id ever have. You cant change my mind.
After the cupcake and another thing checked off my list of things to do, I decided to walk around this town some more. I'm just walking around this little downtown and I stumble on a boba shop. I realized at that moment that I was incredibly thirsty, which is expected because I hadn't had anything to drink. I've also never had boba before so I just thought “why not now”.
I walk in and it was a little shop. There was this very sweet old lady who was helping me choose a drink flavor with these little boba balls. I didnt expect to have so many options. I think I just let her pick the drink for me. If I remember correctly, It was something strawberry and watermelon with some chocolate boba balls (is that the term? “Boba balls”?). So I pay for it and I leave. It was still gorgeous outside so I'm just sitting outside and I'm trying to figure out what else Imma do while I'm here.
I decide that I'm too exhausted to walk all the way back to the place I'm staying so I try and get an uber. It was at this moment that both my credit card and debit card start to decline. I forgot to inform the banks that I was traveling to Seattle and their cards were paused for fraud. Unfortunately, it was pasted 5 pm in Texas where the banks are at, so it wasnt as I could call them.
So there, outside with my boba in my hand, in the middle of the street, I start having a mental breakdown. Because I'm obviously hungry and exhausted. I just walked many many hours to get here and nighttime is about to be here and I don't want to walk in the dark back to the house. I want someone to drive me. I was WAY too embarrassed to call the host family. I don't remember exactly what happened, but I think I got online and was able to unpause a card in order to get an uber.
I've never been so happy to see an uber arrive at me. I get back to the place I'm staying and I think I just crash. I think I slept like 15 hours that night. I deserve it. And I have never walked that long ever again.
